KAVICS
KAVICS – the Kiskunlacháza Active Water and Information Hub – welcomes nature lovers and those seeking water-based activities on the banks of the Ráckeve (Soroksár) Branch of the Danube.
Kiskunlacháza
Kiskunlacháza is one of the special gems of the tourist region around Budapest. The local stretch of the Danube, the Ráckeve (Soroksár) Branch – known to many simply as the Kis-Duna, or Little Danube – offers a truly unique natural setting. Reed-lined waterways, floating bogs, abundant wildlife, and natural swimming spots make this region an ideal destination for boaters, paddlers, anglers, cyclists, and families alike.
The Project
KAVICS was implemented as part of the project titled “Development of a Water Tourism Rest Area on the Banks of the Danube in Kiskunlacháza,” with the identification number TOP_PLUSZ-6.1.3-21-PT1-2022-00009. Its mission is to promote active tourism in the ecotourism destination region around the Ráckeve (Soroksár) Branch through high-quality services and to provide a welcoming gathering place for water sports enthusiasts, tourists, and the local community.
The building
The centerpiece of the project is a uniquely designed boathouse located on the banks of the Danube on land owned by the municipality. Adapted to the terrain, the building was constructed partly sunk into the ground: two storeys tall when viewed from the water, yet modest and harmoniously blended into its surroundings when seen from the land.
KAVICS is both a starting point and a destination: a place where nature-based recreation, water sports, and the unique world of the Little Danube come together.
